A woman in a silver passenger car reportedly drove off the Rims east of Swords Park early Saturday evening.
The 2003 Hyundai Elantra ended up on its side below the Rims, above Vuecrest Drive, between North 17th and North 18th streets, with its contents strewn on the ground. Billings police and firefighters were called to the accident at 6:50 p.m.
The 22-year-old Billings woman, the sole occupant, had been thrown from the car, said Billings Police Sgt. Neil Lawrence. The unresponsive woman was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Healthcare, and the extent of her injuries was not immediately known.
Because of the limited access to the site, the woman was loaded on a backboard into a Billings Fire Department Suburban and taken out to the road, where she was transferred to the ambulance, said Battalion Chief Ed Regele.
The smashed car was lying on its side when officers and first responders arrived, Regele said. He believed it hit the Rims at least once before coming to a rest.
The cause of the accident is not yet known, Lawrence said. The investigation is ongoing.
