School supplies, MontanaFair tickets and 2,000 backpacks will be given away Saturday at the second annual Billings Backpack Giveaway at Rimrock GMC Cadillac, a free event the business hopes will provide area families with a fun opportunity to get a leg up on the approaching school year.

"Hopefully we can help ease some of the families' burdens at this time of year in the community," said Rimrock GMC Cadillac general manager Randy Sears. "The Billings community supports us and gives to us, and it's us trying to find a way to give back to them."

Sears said there is no targeted age range for Saturday's event, which will run from 9 a.m. until noon at the Rimrock GMC Cadillac dealership located at 840 S. Shiloh Road.

Last year there were 1,000 backpacks on hand to give away at the event. Partnering with Rimrock GMC Cadillac on Saturday's backpack giveaway is Love Billings, an anti-bullying campaign started by radio company Connoisseur Media.

School supplies selected from area school supply lists from elementary to high school will be available at a variety of informational stations staffed by members of the Billings Fire Department, the Billings Police Department, Rimrock GMC Cadillac employees and others.

Parents and children can get in line for a backpack after which they will have a chance to move from station to station picking up supplies while learning more about the local community agencies and the day-to-day operations of the car dealership.

Each backpack will include two free tickets to MontanaFair. Saturday's event will also have free snow cones to help cool off and beanbag races.

The fire department is expected to have a fire engine on display and the BPD K-9 unit will be there to explain how they work.

Tours of the Rimrock GMC Cadillac facility will also be available.
