The city of Billings is closing all its collection points for downed branches and brush, meaning such debris will have to be taken directly to the landfill now.
Deputy Public Works Director Vern Heisler said the big grinder that has been chipping branches at two of the collection points Castle Rock and Poly Vista parks has finished its contract with the city, which has enough room at the landfill to handle any additional debris.
City crews have been gathering, chipping and hauling brush since a major snowstorm Oct. 9-12 downed trees and branches all over the city. Also as of Monday, people are asked not to bring debris to the other two collection points, Rose and Optimist parks.
Because of how much work remains to be done, the city is also asking residents to bag leaves and place them on the curb, where they will be picked up. That pickup will start after all the brush has been cleared from city streets and boulevards.
