A 37-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old child three and a half years ago.
Jayson Jay Tallbull made an initial appearance in Yellowstone County Justice Court Monday on a single count of felony sexual assault.
Tallbull is accused of assaulting a child in the summer of 2015.

The allegations against Tallbull were reported to the Billings Police Department shortly after the incident, and again in November 2015 in an anonymous report to the Department of Public Health and Human Services, according to charges. In October 2016, the FBI processed a follow-up report with the same allegations.
Investigators interviewed the child in November 2016 and began unsuccessfully to try to schedule an interview with Tallbull.
The criminal charging documents were prepared in December 2016, and Tallbull was booked into the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on Friday. Bond has been set at $40,000.
Deputy Yellowstone County Attorney Morgan Dake said the investigation timeline in the case was not unusual because child sex abuse victims typically require counseling or other ongoing services up front, and are not immediately ready to be interviewed by law enforcement. Investigators were also initially unclear in which jurisdiction the alleged incident took place.
