Two Billings police officers following up on a traffic accident Friday ended up in a fracas with a Billings man wanted on warrants.

Officers Brett Lapham and Dan Walters went to 139 Prickett Lane to continue an investigation into a wreck in which Lester Runs Above, 21, was a suspect.

According to Sgt. Kevin Unruh, the officers entered the house and saw marijuana. When they attempted to arrest Runs Above on two warrants for partner/family member assault and another for obstructing officers, the officers said he swung and hit them with his fists. Runs Above ran, but was stopped in an adjacent yard by one of the department's dogs, Tango, and his handler officer Brian Korrell, Unruh said.

Runs Above was taken to jail on suspicion of two felony counts of assault on a peace officer; the three misdemeanor warrants, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, criminal possession of dangerous drugs and numerous traffic tickets stemming from the wreck from which he is accused of leaving.
