Crash on 6th Avenue

Billings police and four fire crews had to extricate the driver of a Lincoln that crashed into a tree at 1:30 a.m. on 6th Avenue North on Thursday.

A Billings man killed in a Thursday morning car crash has been identified.

Rodney Leroi Jones Sr., 38, died from multiple blunt force trauma after crashing into a tree in the 3000 block of North Sixth Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday. Yellowstone County Coroner Rich Hoffman identified Jones on Friday.

Jones was taken to Billings Clinic where he died about an hour after the wreck. He was not wearing a seat belt. 

Jones lost control of his Lincoln Continental passenger car for unknown reasons. He was alone in the vehicle.

Billings police shut down Sixth Avenue after the crash, from 30th to 31st streets. The area was closed for a period of three hours until the department's crash investigation team finished processing the scene.
