A fire significantly damaged a home on Harvard Avenue in Billings on Saturday afternoon.
Smoke continued to pour from the home’s roof well after visible flames were extinguished. Firefighters punched through charred roof overhang to douse the home’s upper interior.
One person was at home when the fire started, according Billings Fire Department Battalion Chief Alan Lohof, but got out safely.
The fire appeared to start at the back of the home on an exterior wall, Lohof said, though it was too early to determine a cause. When firefighters arrived, they found flames charring the wall and moving into the roof area.
"They were able to knock it down quickly," Lohof said.
