No one was injured Friday morning when a small fire that started on the outside of an apartment at 18 Lewis Ave. smoked up the building.

Billings Assistant Fire Marshal Bill Tatum said the fire was reported at 5:50 a.m. outside of apartment No. 3. The fire damaged a basement window and burned a small portion of the siding and structure underneath.

Smoke went through out the six-unit apartment complex, forcing the temporary evacuation of the building, Tatum said. No one was injured.

Damage is estimated at $2,000, and the property is insured. Two engines and a truck responded. The cause of the fire has been classified as undetermined, Tatum said.
