The city of Billings is looking to hire a new Municipal Court judge after the sitting judge was elected this month to an open seat in District Court.
Mary Jane Knisely starts her new job as a District Court judge in January, and city leaders are hoping to have her replacement ready by then.
The new judge will be in charge of Municipal Court and will serve until the next city election, which is in November 2011.
Mayor Tom Hanel said interested candidates must be attorneys admitted to practice in Montana for at least three years, must currently live in Yellowstone County and have lived in the county for at least a year and must be a U.S. citizen.
The deadline to apply is Dec. 10. A panel created by the City Council will then interview finalists and make a recommendation to the council by late December.
Applicants should send a cover letter and resume to: Administration Office, City Hall, PO Box 1178, Billings MT 59103-1178; attn. Wynnette Maddox.
