Filing begins for local races

  • Updated

Five people turned in paperwork to run for the Billings City Council on the first day of filing.

The Yellowstone County Elections Office said council incumbents Jani McCall and Denis Pitman both filed for re-election, while newcomers Dennis Ulvestad, Andy Lindley and Brent Cromley also filed for the council.

McCall represents Ward 4, while Pitman represents Ward 2. Ulvestad and Lindley are running for a Ward 5 seat, and Cromley is running in Ward 1.

Municipal Judge Sheila Kolar also filed to run for the city's municipal judge seat. Kolar was appointed to the bench at the beginning of 2011 after longtime Judge Mary Jane Knisely was elected to District Court.

Candidates can file until June 30. The primary election is on Sept. 13; the general election is on Nov. 8.
