A house at 1145 Lake Elmo Road was damaged by a fire late Monday.

The fire in the small house was reported about 10 p.m. and was responded to by five engines and a battalion chief from the Billings Fire Department.

Lake Elmo Road was closed between Windsor Circle South and Nash Lane while firefighters battled the blaze.

A battalion chief said no injuries were reported, but firefighters did rescue a dog from the house. Flames could be seen coming out of the attic of the house, but by 11 p.m. the fire appeared to have been mostly extinguished.

The fire caused moderate damage to the attic and rear of the house,  Assistant Fire Marshal Bill Tatum said in a news release. Smoke and water damage was also reported. The loss was estimated at $15,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
