Billings union endorses Rehberg in re-election bid BILLINGS (AP) - A local of the Teamsters Union endorsed Rep. Denny Rehberg in his bid for re-election Friday, the first time it has ever endorsed a Republican congressional candidate.
"There's no secret that we clearly didn't support the congressman" during the 2000 election, said Joe Dwyer, secretary treasurer of Teamsters Local 190. "He ran a good race, and after he was elected he reached out to us."
Dwyer said Rehberg supports issues that are important to the union, including the farm bill and oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Dwyer admits the union won't always agree with Rehberg, and Rehberg noted that the endorsement for a Republican by a labor union was unusual.
"But the things that we can agree on, we can agree on," Dwyer said.
Teamsters Local 190 represents more than 1,700 workers, including city and county employees, sugar workers, construction workers, certified nurses aides and others.
