Melissa and Michael Schneiter and their children, Chelsey and Mikey, have claimed a $10,000 Powerball prize on a ticket they bought for the June 17 drawing. The Schneiters bought the winning ticket at the Market Basket, located between Laurel and Billings.
Michael went into the Market Basket Wednesday morning, and they told him that someone had bought a $10,000 ticket for Saturday, but no one had claimed it yet.
"Melissa had the tickets in her purse at work, so I called her with the winning numbers," he said.
Melissa added, "I was in the middle of something, and it took me about five minutes to finish up and look at the tickets. When I saw it, I knew right away that we had it. Everyone in my office started screaming, and then I called Michael. I still don't believe it!"
Melissa, who works at Easter Seals/Goodwill in Billings, got the rest of the day off. However, Michael had to finish his Wednesday workday. He works at Auto Auction Montana as a mechanic, and Wednesday is the auction day.
"I had several cars to work on, but I told the kids as soon as I got off work, we would go to Helena," he said.
Chelsey will be in the Miss Pre-Teen pageant in Billings later this summer, and part of the money will help pay for her dress. Melissa and the children also plan a trip to California to help Melissa's mother with some family business. Other than that, the money will go to bills.
