The Breakfast Optimist Club meets at 6:40 a.m. every Friday at McCormick Cafe, 2419 Montana Ave. Upcoming speakers and programs include:
• Friday: Kurt Alme, first assistant U.S. attorney for Montana.
• Dec. 12: Greg Ando, a broker at Mann Mortgage.
• Dec 19: Business meeting with committee reports, updates on current projects and fundraisers, plus an open forum for club members to express their views.
• Dec 26: Meet for breakfast and informal conversation. No program scheduled.
At 9 a.m. Dec. 13, there is a special couples meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Members and their spouses or significant others will enjoy each other's company and welcome the holiday season.
Kevin Kooistra-Manning, community historian of the Western Heritage Center, will present a 40-minute slide show program, "The Railroad Shapes Our Towns." He will talk about the history of town building in Montana, as influenced by the railroads, with a focus on Billings and the Northern Pacific Railroad.
The main focus of Optimist International is bringing out the best in kids. Local groups raise funds for and are involved in numerous programs to help local kids.
