City swimming pools to close The last day to swim at city pools for the Summer 2002 season is:

South Park Pool: Sunday.

Athletic Pool: Aug. 22.

Rose Park Pool: Aug. 25.

Wading Pools/Spray Grounds: Aug. 25.

All pools will close at 6 p.m. with the exception of Terry Park Sprayground, which will close at 8 p.m.

Ostermiller Construction, Inc., will be doing street improvements according to the proposed schedule listed below. Weather permitting, every effort will be made to follow this schedule. On only one road will the work be done in the daytime. On all the others, the work will be done at night.

Access to businesses and/or residences without alley access shall be provided with minor delays.

24th Street West (Grand Avenue to Colton Boulevard) 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 15-20. One lane of traffic in each direction will be open.

Central Avenue (Santa Fe Drive to BBWA Canal) 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Aug. 25. One lane of traffic in each direction will be open.

Underpass Avenue (off of Sixth Street West Underpass) 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Aug. 21-26. Street will be closed with detours.

Overpass Avenue (Seventh Street West to Montana Avenue) 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Aug. 21-26. Street will be closed with detours.

North 18th Street (Montana Avenue to First Avenue North) 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Aug. 21-26. One lane of traffic will be open.

Fourth Avenue North (North 18th Street to Main Street) 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Aug. 25-Sept. 4. One lane of traffic will be open.Family Service seeks school supplies, clothes It's back to school time and during this time of year, Family Service Inc. finds increased demands for clothing and school supplies. Without help there will be children in Billings who will be attending school without adequate clothing, shoes and school supplies, the charity says.

To assist in this need, Rimrock Mall is holding its 15th annual Clothing and School Supply Drive through Aug. 31. A clothing and school supply bin is located inside the mall. Children's "hand prints" have been placed on the bus with their needs for back to school. The public is invited to chose a hand, fill the child's wishes and bring the donation back to the bin.

In addition, gently used clothing is also being accepted and can be dropped off at the bin in Rimrock Mall or Family Service, Inc. at 1824 First Ave. North. The public may donate at Rimrock Mall from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. or at Family Service, Inc. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Family Service, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that has helped with clothing and food needs within the greater Yellowstone county since 1906.FFA fund-raiser slated at Holiday Inn The Montana FFA Foundation will hold its "Extravaganza" Aug. 23 at the Billings Holiday Inn Grand Montana. This third annual event serves as the largest fund-raiser for Montana FFA youth.

Featured that evening will be FFA members describing their experiences in the organization as well as a silent and live auction, said Dane Dugan, Montana FFA development officer. A no-host social will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Justin Mills, marketing specialist for the Northern Broadcasting System and former FFA member, will be the master of ceremonies. FFA license plates, private labeled water and calendars will be available for purchase.

The Extravaganza in Billings will be a prelude to the FFA's annual convention next April.

The event is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Harts Furniture at Broadwater Avenue and 24th Street West.

The Kids Karnival is sponsored by Special Olympics Montana-Yellowstone Valley Area. It is a fund-raiser for several area groups, including the Billings Local Adults of Special Olympics; Case Management; Special K Ranch; Beartooth Industries and Job Connection Inc.
