Enjoying a laugh with fellow workers is Stone Gossard, who has helped build five straw houses on reservations. In his regular job Gossard plays guitar for one rock and roll’s most successful and famous groups, Pearl Jam. Gossard, who was doing the same work as everyone else, said building the straw houses combines elements that cannot be utilized when building traditional houses. “It allows unskilled labor to participate, but the houses are easy to build and very efficient. It’s a beautiful construction style,” he said.

Forty-seven people will work to complete the 1500 square foot, two bedroom, two bath house by July 28, said Robert Young, Director of Red Feather Development Group. Curtis and Martha Bear Quiver will move in any time thereafter.
