A man was arrested Friday afternoon at Billings Clinic after he grabbed surgical tools and acted threateningly toward hospital staff, according to the Billings Police Department.

Michael Lynn Whiteman, 44, was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a weapon Friday, according to BPD Sgt. Scott Conrad.

Whiteman was at the hospital receiving treatment when he grabbed three surgical tools and began "violently thrashing around," Conrad said.

Hospital staff felt threatened by the behavior and a nurse pinned Whiteman against a wall before hospital security arrived to further restrain him, Conrad said.

Officers arrived on scene, and Whiteman was handcuffed and placed into a patrol car outside the Billings Clinic SameDay Care Downtown building at 802 N. Broadway.

The Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office also responded to the incident.

No one was struck by the tools and no one was injured, Conrad said.
