A 21-year-old Billings man who told police he drank nine beers before he slammed into the back of a pickup truck in downtown Billings received a suspended sentence in District Court on Tuesday.
Michael Justin Shore was sentenced to five years suspended for criminal endangerment and six months suspended for driving under the influence.
He will also have to pay $4,000 in fines.
The crash happened May 11. A 2001 Hyundai driven by Shore was traveling east on Fourth Avenue North and hit the rear end of a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck stopped for a red light at North 26th Street.
The woman driving the truck was taken to St. Vincent Healthcare and later released.
A witness said the driver of the car did not attempt to brake before colliding with the truck.
A preliminary breath test on scene showed Shore had a blood-alcohol level of .209 percent.
