Two Musselshell County commissioners have pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge related to a shoving incident in February.

Robert Goffena and Thomas Berry entered their pleas in Musselshell County Justice Court this week, according to court clerk Carole McInnis.

The commissioners have been charged with making false reports to law enforcement. Berry called 911 on Feb. 5 to say that a local man, Troy Evans, had pushed Goffena at the county courthouse.

Witness accounts and video footage contradicted that account. Charging documents said that Goffena could be seen shoving Evans while closing the door on him.

McInnis said the next court appearance hasn't yet been set. The maximum penalty for the misdemeanor is a fine of $500 and a jail term of six months.
