High Elk left the center at 5:45 p.m. Saturday. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He is an American Indian with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt. He was convicted on charges of assault with a weapon in Missoula County and sentenced Nov. 28, 2007. He now faces a 10-year sentence for felony escape.

The Montana Department of Corrections and law enforcement authorities are searching for George Jesse High Elk, 26, who walked away Saturday from the Alpha House pre-release center at 104 N. 31st St. in Billings.

According to a news release from Alternatives, Inc., which administers the pre-release program, High Elk left the center at 5:45 p.m. Saturday. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He is an American Indian with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt.

He was convicted on charges of assault with a weapon in Missoula County and sentenced Nov. 28, 2007. He now faces a 10-year sentence for felony escape.

The Department of Corrections said the public should not approach High Elk. Information on his location should be reported to law enforcement officials or Alternatives at 697-5316
