Optimist Clubs prepare for tree sales
Three of Billings' Optimist Clubs will be selling Christmas trees as part of their fundraising efforts this year.
Breakfast Optimist Club will have trees for sale in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 2525 King Ave. W. Sale hours will be noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 22 to 26, then 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily starting Nov. 28.
Magic City Optimist Club's tree lot will be in the West Park Plaza parking lot at 1600 Grand Ave. The lot will operate 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays starting Nov. 28.
Riverside Optimist Club will sell trees in the Heights Wal-Mart parking lot at 1649 Main St. from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday-Monday starting Nov. 28.
The lots will operate until the trees are gone.
Optimist International is the fourth-largest volunteer service organization in the world with projects such as the Childhood Cancer Campaign, Optimist International Jr. Golf Championships, Optimist International Essay and Oratorical Contests, and the Respect for Law and Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Billings has six Optimist Clubs, four of which put on the Optimist Special Children's Camp outside of Red Lodge, where 50 to 60 developmentally disabled children have a chance to go to summer camp and be just regular kids.
The Breakfast Optimist Club's projects include all these plus sponsoring soccer and Little League teams, Scout Troop 30 and Students Organized Against Risk.
