Photos: Fire burns near Alkali Creek as red flag warnings begin

A brush fire that began rolling through a property near Alkali Creek Road and Skyway Drive in the Billings Heights Wednesday afternoon burned 2.3 acres, said Colin Sturgill, Fuego Fire Service chief.

The fire was human caused, said Sturgill.

Firefighters from multiple agencies, including DNRC, BLM, and fire departments from Billings and Shepherd assisted Fuego with the blaze as it crawled to about 100 yards from a building on the property.

A firefighter on the scene said the building would only be in danger if the wind changed directions.

With hot temperatures and little to no precipitation predicted in the coming week, red flag warnings from NWS will likely continue to arise as summer kicks into full swing.
