Prosecutors will ask a judge to transfer to adult court the case of a 17-year-old Billings youth accused of attacks with a bat and a handgun.

Jeremiah Desjarlais has been charged in Youth Court with two counts of assault with a weapon. He appeared Wednesday in District Court where prosecutors said they want to charge him as an adult. A hearing on that matter will be scheduled later.

According to court records, Desjarlais attacked another youth with a baseball bat last Nov. 16. The 17-year-old victim, identified by the initials J.B., was hit in the arm with a bat during a confrontation in the parking lot of the County Market on Central Avenue.

On Jan. 14 of this year, prosecutors allege that Desjarlais threatened a 16-year-old youth, J.H., with a handgun by pointing it at his stomach. The incident occurred at Stewart Park during another confrontation between two groups of teens, said Deputy County Attorney Mark Angelus.

Desjarlais was arrested Feb. 1 after being detained on suspicion of shoplifting at Rimrock Mall. Desjarlais, who turns 18 on Feb. 17, is being held in the youth detention center on $15,000 bond.
