Late-night vandals smashed windows in vehicles parked at Heights homes and businesses this week, according to police reports.

Most of the vandalism was reported Monday and Tuesday mornings, said Billings Police Lt. Joe Bryce. On Monday morning, police took reports of a window broken out of a truck at U-Haul Moving Center, 1145 Main St. Bryce said a piece of rebar was used to break the window. There were separate reports of vandalism to two vehicles in the area of Lake Elmo and Sioux Lane, he said.

Bryce said there seems to be “no rhyme or reason” to the crimes, which became more widely scattered after Monday night.

On Tuesday morning, a homeowner in the 900 block of Lake Elmo reported that for the third night in a row, windows had been broken on his van. The window of a car in the 600 block of Wicks Lane was broken.

There were two incidents of broken vehicle windows in the 2000 block of Clubhouse Way, but only one of the owners reported items missing from the car, Bryce said.

The vandals also hit neighboring Heights businesses that night. Glass was broken in one vehicle at Tire-Rama, 1001 Main St. Bryce said five or six cars in the back lot of the Paint Doctor at 1005 Main St. had broken windows.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call the Billings police dispatch center at 657-8200. Residents may also call the Heights Cop Shop at 657-3017 or stop by the office in Albertson’s at 670 Main St.
