A 21-year-old woman was arrested early Tuesday after a hit-and-run that hospitalized a 20-year-old man with life-threatening head injuries, according to the Billings Police Department.

The man had been walking with a woman on the sidewalk at the intersection of Eighth Street West and Alderson Avenue when he was struck by a Ford Mustang, police Sgt. Pat Curry stated in a press release. The incident was called in to police at 1:29 a.m.

The woman driving the car left the scene, but was later stopped by a Montana State University Billings Police officer, the release stated.

Alcohol and speed were suspected to be factors in the collision. The woman who had also been walking on the sidewalk was uninjured, according to the release.

As of 6:20 a.m., Curry said the man remained in critical condition.

None of the individuals' names have been released.
