A woman accused of leaving her two young children home alone pleaded not guilty Monday to charges in District Court.
Kellie Jo Habedank is accused of leaving her children, ages 1 and 2, unattended while she was at work. She was arraigned before Judge Gregory Todd on a felony charge of criminal endangerment and a misdemeanor count of obstructing.
Habedank, 27, was allowed to remain free while her case is pending after posting a $20,000 bond.
Prosecutors allege that on April 22, a Yellowstone County sheriff's deputy found the children alone in a house in Shepherd. Habedank arrived a short time later and told the deputy that a woman had been babysitting her children. Sheriff's deputies could not find the woman, and Habedank is accused of later changing her story, saying that she left her children with a homeless woman she let stay at her house.
