A Yellowstone County Detention Facility inmate died Monday afternoon, said a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals office in Billings.

Personnel at the county jail performed CPR on the inmate shortly before 3 p.m. Minutes later he was rushed to a hospital.

Yellowstone County Sheriff's officials declined repeatedly to comment on the incident and referred calls to the Marshals office.

The spokesman for the U.S. Marshals office declined to release the inmate's name, age and cause of death, saying the incident is an ongoing investigation. The spokesman also declined to identify himself.

Original Report: Yellowstone County Detention Facility personnel performed CPR on an inmate shortly before 3 p.m.. Around 3:20 an ambulance and sheriff’s patrol car were seen leaving the jail.

The Sheriff’s office has declined to comment on the matter.
