U.S. Air Force Airman Bailey G. Life recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio. Life is the son of Jeanna S. Life, of Moorhead, Minnesota, and Michael T. Life of Billings.

In the schools

Madison Blatter, a senior at West High, was recently awarded the P.E.O. STAR Scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year. Blatter was recommended for the scholarship by Chapter CC of Absarokee/Columbus. She plans to attend The University of South Carolina to pursue studies in the medical field.

The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. The program is open to young women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application. A student must be recommended by a P.E.O. Chapter.

P.E.O. is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes increased educational opportunities for women.

Luke Cathey, of Billings, was recently named to the University of Jamestown's spring 2019 dean's list for maintaining a semester grade point average of at least 3.5.

To be eligible for graduation honors, a Carroll student must complete 60 hours of coursework at Carroll and graduate with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5. The Montana University System recently offered local students a Montana University System Honor Scholarship. The MUS Honor Scholarship is a renewable scholarship offered by the Montana Board of Regents that waives undergraduate tuition for up to eight semesters at any campus of the Montana University System or Dawson, Flathead Valley or Miles community colleges. The scholarship’s average value is $20,000. It is considered the most prestigious scholarship offered centrally by the Montana University System.

Students offered the scholarship must be graduates of an accredited Montana high school with a minimum grade point average of 3.4 at the end of their seventh semester in high school, take either the ACT or SAT standardized test, meet college core requirements and attend an eligible Montana campus.

A total of 230 scholarships were offered statewide. Area students offered the Montana University System Honor Scholarship are:

Two local students were awarded a “What Drives You?” scholarship by Billings Jiffy Lube owners.

Theresa Goudy, Senior High student, is the overall scholarship recipient and will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

Laura Keenan, a Skyview High student, is the runner-up and will be awarded $1,000.
