In the schools

Each year, the Billings Family YMCA with Billings School District 2 and other public and private area schools honor students who excel in academics, community activities and leadership skills. Principals and supporting staff from each elementary and middle school select the students that have portrayed outstanding leadership qualities. The following students were recently named this year’s Principals’ Leadership Award winners:

Sydney Meyer, a violinist at West High, was recently named the recipient of the 2017 Uri Barnea Music Scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship is given each year to a graduating senior in one of the Billings high school orchestras, who is planning to attend college in the fall. The applicant must be an accomplished musician of a string instrument having received a superior rating at the State Music Festival, and having high academic achievement. The endowed scholarship is maintained by the Montana Community Foundation.

Zachary Joseph Dedekind, of Billings, was named to the 2017 winter quarter dean's list at Seattle Pacific University. To qualify, students must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and complete at least 12 credits.
