Ever heard of the word "affluenza"? The basic meaning of the word is a contagious virus to possess an abundant supply. I find this to be a sad pandemic in the world and especially in wealthy nations. In America, I would challenge the thought that our economy is in trouble, but rather that we can't stop wanting more and more of what is already enough. What if we as Americans stopped building our small kingdoms and started giving of our over-abundance? It's our desire for over-abundance that causes us to see our nation in an economic crisis. It is true that this nation is in debt, but it is easy to see how to get out of it — we have enough, stop wanting more!

Stop spending what we don't have! Most nations would be happy to have an economy like America's, especially those nations that can see that we simply need a control on desire. What about our own lives? We are no better than our government or our nation at large. Most of our individual lives are in the same boat as the nation overall. Affluenza has already caught up with some, and they find that they are unable to stop spending beyond their means. This has created a large individual debt and the inability to enjoy life; others continue to amass unnecessary stockpiles of stuff. While they may never outspend their ability, their purchases and purchasing powers never satisfy and never bring true fulfillment.
