I am Kristie Lee Boelter's mother. She's the Republican candidate for the Clerk of District Court in Yellowstone County. I was disappointed in the recent article in The Billings Gazette concerning her and the present head clerk. It was an investigation into why there is such a high turnover rate in that office which is similar to why there was such a high turnover rate in a VA office in an earlier story in The Gazette.
The reasons for the high turnover in both offices were similar, but the two articles turned out quite differently. This article made it sound like there were no problems. However, any office is in trouble where 14 of the 18 staff members quit during a office holder's four-year term. The VA administrator was reassigned for a far lower turnover rate than that. Boelter did not disclose the reasons why her co-workers quit because she does not want to run a negative campaign, but her co-workers gave those reasons in their interviews. Some have sent emails questioning why their interviews were not included in the article. Hopefully, The Gazette will revisit the story and give a full accounting this time, or at least publish those emails questioning why their quotes regarding the unprofessional work environment were not used in the article.
