We have been reading about the so-called “problem” at Northwest College — the recruiting of students who are Mormons, more accurately members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am wondering if the LDS people of this community should be offended and maybe feel prejudiced against by teachers and students and feel that it was so wrong. We have had as many as four family members attending Northwest at one time, and they were all Mormons. This semester we have a daughter here at Northwest. She is a 4.0 student, very wholesome and I think generally very well liked by her teachers. Maybe our children shouldn’t be attending a school where their religion is so offensive to teachers and other students!
Who is it OK to recruit? I didn’t realize people could be so worried about who spends their money at this college and in this town. It isn’t like they were trying to bring in a bunch of rabble-rousers. Is it OK to recruit Catholics, Baptists, atheists? Who is welcomed at Northwest College? Only those who aren’t religious? Let’s get this in perspective and stop hassling those who are trying to keep the college growing and thriving.
