Many years ago, a prominent congressman once said that only 1 percent of bikers are outlaws. I hope that the 1 percent of the ATVers who are illegally riding their machines off the trails do not hamper the great riding Montana has to offer those of us who abide by the laws. There are a lot more responsible riders who try to leave no mark on the wilderness than there are "outlaws."

Many of my friends and fellow riders take the time to pick up garbage left on the trail. They clear down fall off trails to make them more accessible to everybody. And they follow the rules set forth by the Forest Service.

The forests of this country are for all citizens, not just those who choose to walk. We, the ATVers, do not want to close any of the forests to hikers or horsemen or any other person who wants to enjoy them. Let's regulate, not eliminate, the use.
