Through volunteering, donations and financial support, Billings and the surrounding communities surpassed the expectations of the Casting for Recovery team for the first annual Pink Pookie Gala fundraiser held on Feb. 15.

We thank our corporate and patron sponsors and all the individuals who donated through the auctions and ticket sales. The high level of generosity allows us to fund another retreat for our Montana breast cancer survivors on Aug. 22-24 at the Upper Canyon Outfitters; applications can still be made to www.castingforrecovery.org

CfR is a national program, founded in 1996, in Manchester, Vt., by a breast cancer reconstructive surgeon and a professional fly fisher. CfR benefits women who are breast cancer survivors regardless of age or stage of treatment. The 2-1/2-day retreat, which is offered to the participates at no cost, incorporates both basic techniques of fly fishing instruction and social support with focus on empowerment to improve their quality of life after diagnosis. The retreat provides the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of our wondrous state and to encourage an environment of peace for a few days to escape the stressors of cancer.

Again, thank you, Billings, for your generosity.
