Chairman Art Wittich (R), Kirk Wagoner (R), Seth Berglee (R), Alan Doane (R), Bill Harris (R), Stephanie Hess (R), Forrest Mandeville (R), Albert Olszewski (R), Alan Redfield (R) and Vince Ricci (R) are members of Montana's House Health and Human Services committee, Montana's own "death panel." They voted against the Medicaid expansion bill that is supported by more than 80 percent of Montanans. They unilaterally denied 70,000 of Montana's men, women and children lifesaving health care.
Every representative, for their part-time job, have fully funded health care from the state. For the committee to play political games with our health and well being is unconscionable. Medicare and Medicaid work. They are already in place and have cost saving checks and balances built in. The Montanans who will be covered are at poverty levels with little or no other options. Some have to make a choice between day to day living or medical care.
I pay my federal taxes, and I demand that it be used for our Montana citizens' health and well being and not for wars, support of corporate greed or sent to another state. I read with interest the letter from Linda Prescott who quoted from the Wall Street Journal, implying that the expansion would create more poor. That is the most uninformed thing I have ever read.
Medicaid is not the cause nor the state "budget buster," but it is a result of lost jobs, poor education and inept state governments. Accepting the expansion as is will provide lifesaving care for 70,000 Montanans, relief for the state and an increase in health care jobs.
Montanans deserve more than being used as pawns in the state’s political games. Contact your legislator and demand representation!
