The early warning shots fired by Romney and Fox News over Benghazi gave Obama a chance to duck for cover. Along with Democrats, the call went out for an extensive bipartisan investigation in which Republicans would have equal say on everything. This approach would assure all that there would be no whitewash, but did prolong the result until after the election. In the meantime, both Obama and Clinton took full responsibility for the tragedy, but even that didn’t stop Fox News from claiming it was a full-blown felonious act “worse than Watergate.”
When tragedies similar to Benghazi occurred in the past, even if there was some malfeasance or negligence, a bipartisan remedy to fix it was the answer, with politics set aside. That was before Fox News.
Fox News is now the major influence on the Republican Party, far exceeding the usual ones like Chamber of Commerce, NRA and potty-mouth Rush Limbaugh. Today, Fox News is the primary reason for a new “select” committee to further the Benghazi issue. Politicizing Benghazi dishonors the fallen four and cheapens those exploiting it. Fox News has become journalism’s cesspool with a toxic aroma of a murky form of McCarthyism, which pollutes the Republican atmosphere. This totally negative world mixed with fear strongly conflicts with the traditional upbeat American spirit. When the majority is united in a common positive purpose, America has always thrived and will do so again, despite Fox News.
