I moved from a city that attempted various things, spent millions of dollars and a lot of energy trying to bring shoppers back "downtown," but people just kept moving out to the ever-increasing shopping malls. Clearly, shoppers reported, "parking just keeps going up downtown. Why not park where it is free?"
Please, let us not make the same mistake. It is a psychological resistance to parking meters. Why push shoppers toward free parking at the malls by raising the price of the meters?
Yes, we need more parking garages. I hope that the creative minds of our leaders can come up with a better way of financing these garages than raising the cost of meters.
