I want to thank the Billings Food Bank for their continuing support of the charitable organizations in Billings. At St. Vincent de Paul, we receive a weekly supply of food from the Billings Food Bank at no charge to us. We distribute this food to hundreds of families in need who come to us each month for help.
It appears there has been some confusion in many people's minds regarding the distinction between the Billings Food Bank and the Montana Food Bank, which is headquartered in Missoula. The Billings Food Bank is not affiliated with them. The Montana Food Bank has held some fund-raisers in the Billings area, and many people with whom I spoke donated to them thinking they were contributing to the Billings Food Bank. These funds did not go to the Billings Food Bank which feeds our local hungry at no charge.
The St. Vincent de Paul Office in Great Falls receives food through the Great Falls Community Food Bank, which is affiliated with the Montana Food Bank Network. St. Vincent de Paul is currently paying them between 20 and 50 cents a pound for canned food which has been donated to these food banks. St. Vincent de Paul then distributes this food to needy families at no charge.
On behalf of St. Vincent de Paul in Billings and the needy families we serve, I thank Sheryle Shandy and the Billings Food Bank for continuing to provide food at no charge here in Billings. This has allowed us to use our donated funds to assist these families with rent, utilities, medical and other emergency bills. Thanks also to those of you who support St. Vincent de Paul and the Billings Food Bank. You make this possible!
