I have been biting my lip about writing on this subject, but on Dec. 31, I had to go on an errand of about 10 blocks - on foot. My usual route, Sixth Avenue North and 27th Street was a horror of icy sidewalks, ice as hard as cast iron.
Not everyone drives. Those who do not drive, are doomed to walk on very dangerous ice. Those businesses owners who do not take care of snow removal will recognize themselves here. Several requests have been made to them, and I have been assured this will be taken care of. It has not happened!
Is there not a city ordinance about this? If not, that should be looked at. There are places, such as driveways, where this is impractical, unless taken care of promptly after a measurable snowfall. How about allowing free ads for people who are willing to do some shoveling? It would be cheaper than paying for a lawsuit, and the ill will this creates.
On a happier note, thanks to the hospitals for keeping the corridor very clean and dry. This is not only wise, but very considerate. A bouquet to you.
A brickbat to the others.
