Recently, I noted several references to Jerry LaFountain and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). I am writing this letter in support of LaFountain. I am a female disabled Vietnam veteran and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart as well as VFW. I have served in a national, state and local capacity in the MOPH and have known and worked closely with LaFountain for several years.
LaFountain has devoted his life to helping veterans and working on veterans issues. He is an outspoken advocate for the rights of veterans above all else. His loyalty to these issues has often earned him a reputation as a "pot stirrer" by those in more political positions within organizations. Yes, he does speak out, but he speaks the truth and is loyal to veterans above the organizations they supposedly serve. I know him to have impeccable integrity. He cannot be bought with positions or promises. He stands by his truth. Unfortunately, this upsets those who choose to keep the status quo for their own agendas.
This man put together and devoted himself to the monument now located in Billings that honors all Montana Purple Heart veterans from all wars. LaFountain has a background in law and stands for truth and justice in all he does. These are the qualities that made this nation great. Have we forgotten? It's time for changes on all levels of our society and organizations. It's time for them to represent those they say they represent. LaFountain is a reminder to them of this. If I were to be in battle, LaFountain is a man I would want at my side. He is a fighter. More should be willing to stand up and be truthful.
