The state Land Board has the opportunity to give Montana citizens a great Christmas gift — a gift that will keep on giving.

On the board’s agenda for Monday is the leasing of millions of tons of coal in the Otter Creek area near Ashland. A yes vote will give Montana’s economy a real boost at a particularly strategic time.

Wouldn’t it be great if Gov. Broam Schweitzer and the board members signed a lease just before Christmas? Think of the money for schools and for infrastructure. Think of the jobs for Eastern Montana. Think of the energy so desperately needed by the entire nation.

Please think reasonably and responsibly, Land Board, and vote yes for the leasing of the Otter Creek coal. Give us some natural-resource development dollars for Christmas this year, and next year, and for many years to come.
