Senior High Platinum program enriches students

We thank the Senior High faculty facilitators and community mentors who worked with the Platinum Program (March 30 Gazette)students on their magnum opus projects.

Our daughter, Sadie, was very fortunate to have an inspiring English teacher, Judy Barnes, who encouraged and guided Sadie with her poetry. Barnes also connected Sadie with Craig Lancaster, an accomplished local author, who volunteered to work with her and helped her negotiate the self-publishing process. Lancaster devoted hours of his time to meet with Sadie, set goals, and share his experiences as an author. He also gave up several Sundays to work with her at the computer, teaching her the mechanics of formatting and publishing her book. Thanks to the guidance of Barnes and Lancaster, Sadie was able to publish, "In My Tin Can," her anthology of poetry. Not only has Sadie’s love of the written word grown, but the royalties from her book will help to fund her college education and further her writing endeavors.

We are so thankful for this wonderful program.
