I have seen in recent days another mean spirited depiction of President Obama describing him as the angel of death. If I recall my Christian upbringing, one of the Ten Commandments is “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”
I bring this up because I’m sickened by the angry, mean-spirited nature of some this election season.
It was easy to see why this country chose to go the way it did. We were looking at a depression as large as the Great Depression of 1929. Recently, in this time of imminent economic collapse, both parties voted to accept the huge government bailout pushed through by then-President George W. Bush. The Wall Street bankers and insurance companies were expected to “trickle down” their bonanza to Main Street. Within a very short time, the Republican Party started blaming the Democrats for running high deficits and its failure to produce jobs the same time they opposed any effort to create infrastructure projects. They stonewalled efforts at Wall Street reform, health care reform or any efforts to help stem the flow of mortgage defaults.
My only wish is that people would start to use their critical thinking skills and quit reacting to the fear mongering and begin to work together pull this wonderful experiment in democracy back from of the brink of plutocracy and corporate greed.
