We need to do more to stop animal cruelty

My name is Grace Gregory, I am a junior at West High School and I have been very bothered lately by the news about animal cruelty and neglect.

After visiting the local animal shelter and researching Montana's statistics on animal abuse, I was very concerned.

With no regulation on puppy mills and a legislation that provides little support to animal rights, I desire a change.

As a community we have a responsibility to protect the rights of animals and put an end to immoral treatment of animals. I would like to help in any way I can to raise awareness of this issue and make sure that Montana legislation is more supportive of ending animal cruelty. I think The Gazette also has a responsibility in doing so.

Montanans need to be more aware of this topic and being the local newspaper, The Gazette has power to raise awareness as well. People need to know and things need to change. I would like to help raise awareness in any way I can.
