A North Carolina man accused of kidnapping and killing an elderly ex-sheriff in Billings in June has had his bond doubled to $2 million.
Donald Mack Gray Jr., 58, is charged in Yellowstone County with deliberate homicide and obstructing a peace officer, a misdemeanor.
Judge Michael Moses increased Gray’s bond on Tuesday at Gray’s arraignment.

Prosecutors say Gray carjacked 81-year-old William Joy in Billings on June 10 and stabbed him to death when he tried to attract attention.
After Gray’s initial appearance on the local charges, he was charged in Asheville, North Carolina, with kidnapping and killing a 59-year-old woman who had been reported missing May 24.
