A 41-year-old man awaits sentencing for sexual assaults of two children after being convicted on the charges last week.
Jesus Villanueva was found guilty on two counts of sexual assault during a jury trial in Yellowstone County District Court that ended Friday.
Jurors found Villanueva not guilty on one count of sexual intercourse without consent.
The case involved two 7-year-old victims.
During the investigation, the detective listened to calls Villanueva made from jail. Villanueva begged one child's mother not to involve the police, charges state. In another call, he said that "if anything had happened, it was because he was using drugs," according to court documents.
Villanueva faces life imprisonment or a term of four to 100 years on both counts of sexual assault. If convicted on the rape charge, he would have faced an automatic 25 years in prison without parole.
Villanueva remains in the Yellowstone County Detention Facility. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
