FARGO, N.D. — A man who was dressed in a gorilla suit and was armed with a machete has been arrested for threatening neighbors at a Fargo apartment building, according to police.

Officers were called to the apartment building about 12:30 a.m. Friday on a report of possible gunshots.

Officers were able to contain the man to one apartment and evacuated about a-half dozen tenants, according to Sgt. Travis Moser.

Authorities said the man was threatening to blow up the building and everyone inside, KFGO reported. Police determined he had been setting off artillery-shell size fireworks.

Officers negotiated with the man, who they say was heavily intoxicated, for about two hours and eventually convinced him to surrender.

He was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation, cleared, and taken to jail on a possible charge of terrorizing.
