Scales of justice

A Poplar man has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to causing the death of an infant who would not stop crying.

Dennis Red Boy, 28, was also sentenced Wednesday to two years supervised release by Judge Brian Morris in U.S. District Court in Great Falls.

Red Boy pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in February as part of a plea agreement that called for the government to dismiss its original charge of second-degree murder.

On Aug. 15, 2017, Red Boy had been taking care of his six-month-old, referred to only as "Jane Doe" in court documents. After the child wouldn't stop crying, Red Boy flipped the infant on her stomach and threw a heavy blanket over her, returning about an hour later to find her not breathing.
