A local woman faces felony charges after prosecutors say she cut a police officer in the hand with a knife.

Shelley Jean Berger, 43, appeared in Yellowstone County Justice Court on Monday on six charges, including assault on a peace officer, assault with a weapon and assault with bodily fluid, a misdemeanor.

Berger cut a Laurel police officer on the hand and kicked him in the shin while he tried to disarm her on Friday, charges state.

Police had been called to a warehouse on the 200 block of South Washington Avenue in Laurel, where there was a reported domestic disturbance in an RV parked inside the warehouse.

After police disarmed Berger, she was put in the back of a patrol car, where she reportedly spit in an officer’s face, charges state.
