Ambulance emergency

A 34-year-old Missoula man was killed in a single car accident Sunday morning south of Hamilton.

Ravalli County Sheriff/Coroner Steve Holton identified the man as Johnny Rae Donaldson.

Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott Bennett said the accident occurred at about 11 a.m. near the Lone Pine gas station near mile marker 45.

The driver was northbound on U.S. Highway 93 when his vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and then went off the road, where the vehicle rolled several times.

Bennett said the man was not wearing seat belt. He was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

“We suspect excessive speed played a role in the accident,” Bennett said. "We’re also concerned that drugs and alcohol may have been involved. The fact that he was not wearing a seat belt contributed in the fatality.”

“We are lucky that he didn’t hit an oncoming vehicle when he crossed over into the oncoming lane,” he said.
